Goals and Symptoms:
Is there an issue running OFS on windows XP SP 2, or a virtual machine?
What is the max number of groups?
What is the max number if items within a group?
Heathrow airport Terminal 5. OFs V3.31 running on virtual machine Windows XP Pro SP2. Problems with comms. Customer has found when he configures multiple groups, if the first group fails to communicate, so do the remaining groups.
I have suggest customer runs OFS from the Host OS, instead of via a Virtual Machine. Problem is architecture of Terminal 5 runs on Virtual Machines, so this is not an option
Causes and Fixes:
> Is there an issue running OFS on windows XP SP 2, or a virtual machine?
We didn t know issues about Windows XP SP2 because this operating system has been valided.
However, OFS isn t compliant with the virtual mode.
>What is the max number of groups?
Ofs creates 4 threads for each new Group:
[ 1 thread of connection + 1 thread for the notification + 2 threads for the communication managment ]
=> 3 threads by device + 1 thread of OPC client connection
However, OFS Server is limited at 1024 threads.
Thus the max number of Group = 1024 / 4 = 256 groups
> What is the max number if items within a group?
There aren t limitation about number of items within a group. The number of items will be limited by the load communication and the number of accepted requests by the PLC.
Furthermore, I found errors within the OFS configuration on the device alias communicating through a gateway.
In fact, these device alias have to be configured in Modbus TCP/IP (MBT:10.....) and not Modbus TCP gateway (MBTG:10...)
